Randolph William Robbins

Randolph William Robbins (1871-1941)

Robbins was born at South Hackney. He had an interest in Natural History from a young age, collecting moths and butterflies by ‘sugaring’. He helped to create the Clapton Naturalists Field Club towards the end of his time at school. This later became the North London Natural History Society and later still in 1914, the LNHS of today.

Robbins was elected President of the LNHS in 1920 and held various positions during his time as a member. He was always a leading figure and active member, contributing papers on all kinds of science subjects from the very beginning of the infant Society. He was regarded as an excellent all-round field naturalist by his friends and colleagues at the LNHS.

Robbins travelled abroad in Europe and in England and Wales when he could, often collecting plants and insects.

R. W.  Robbins contributed four specimens to the LNHS gall collection.
