Miss M. Hose (Mrs Wilson)

Mrs M. M. Wilson (nee Hose) (?-1947)

Mrs Wilson, better known to most Society members by her maiden name as Miss Hose, joined the Society in 1931. Initially she was mainly interested in botany and ornithology, but she had a general interest in all aspects of natural history and often led excursions in North West Kent.
In about 1937 she became interested in the study of Hemiptera. She carried a supply of specimen tubes on her walks to collect specimens for identification. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge with children and would take a group of young people into the countryside to explore the birds, flowers and insects.

J.E.Lousley praises her observational skill when he wrote that a plant feature she had pointed out, ‘only a very observant person would notice’.
Miss Hose became Mrs Wilson in 1940 and had two children. After WW2 she joined botanical excursions with the Society once again but sadly died young in 1947.

Miss Hose contributed one specimen to the LNHS gall collection.
