Hilda Franks

Hilda Franks (1890 -1990)

Hilda Franks was born in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. At the age of 13 years she became a pupil-teacher of young children. At 19 years old, she moved to London and eventually became a teacher of natural history and biology. She joined the LHNS in 1936 and in 1946 was appointed Schools’ Liaison Officer. She was active on the Society’s Area Nature Conservation Committee and in the Ramblers Section, being Secretary, Chairman and Lanternist at different times for many years. In 1981 she was made an Honorary Member of the Society.

Miss Franks wrote an autobiography, ‘A Country Child of the 1890s’ which was published in 1987.

Franks contributed one specimen to the LNHS gall collection.
