John Cuthbert Robbins

John Cuthbert Robbins (1905-1932)

Robbins was born at Walthamstow to parents who were keen naturalists and members of the LNHS. Indeed, his father, R. W. Robbins, was an active founding member of the LNHS.

John died young in a motor accident in 1932, a sad loss as he had shown great promise as a young naturalist. He joined the Imperial Institute of Entomology in 1922 and, among other natural history interests, he became attracted to the study of Sawflies after observing sawfly larvae on the Solomons Seal growing in his parent’s garden.

Shortly before his death he had been selected to assist in a scientific project in the West Indies to which he was greatly looking forward.

J. C.  Robbins contributed one specimen to the LNHS gall collection.
